Joe: Soft, secure, and stable - unlike the great Rock & Roll ballad from the Scorpions, the Hurricane 24 is going to keep you from rocking all day - and all night - long. Saucony lauds the Hurricane 24 as insanely comfortable and profoundly protective, and after a couple weeks of logging easy miles on the roads and wearing it to work, it’s hard to disagree with their assessment. You may never set a world record in the Hurricane 24, but your feet will feel just as refreshed at the end of the day as the moment you put on the Hurricane 24 at the onset of the day.
Karen: My first short run, this shoe is like a reliable sidekick—always there when you need it, but never demanding the spotlight. The cushioning takes care of the impact, so your joints don’t feel like they’re auditioning for a trampoline contest. There seemed to be a party with every step.
Joe: The Hurricane 24, with its cushioned tongue, padded heel collar, and Ortholite sockliner, provides a plush step-in experience that your foot didn’t know it needed until it felt it. It brought back memories of a family road trip where we rented a standard mid-sized SUV and received a complimentary upgrade to a brand new Chrysler Pacifica with all the bells and whistles. The spacious toe box will be accommodating for get of all shapes and sizes, while the flat knit upper keeps your feet feel cool even in the hot, muggy days of summer. The adaptive lacing mechanism leaves your feet feeling snug and secure within the Hurricane 24, though I did notice that on my left foot, the tongue would occasionally to the lateral side of my foot during the course of a run or day of work.
Karen: Imagine a shoe that feels like it was custom-made just for you. The Hurricane 24’s mesh upper is both breathable and accommodating, ensuring your feet don’t overheat while you’re plotting your next Netflix binge. Plenty of room, without feeling like your feet are swimming, or wearing a tight wetsuit. I get a little twist to the side with the tongue. But it seems a small price to pay for everything that's right.
Joe: The dual-cushioned midsole of the Hurricane 24 offers a stable platform with each step with thanks to a broad base PWRRUN foam, and yet there’s some pep still in your step through the PWRRUN PB foam that sits directly underfoot. Integrated into the midsole is Saucony’s new approach to stability, CenterPath Technology. These upgrades provide each customer with a broad platform, higher sidewalls, an asymmetric profile, and a rocker shape with a beveled heel guide that leads to a smooth, soft, secure step time and time again.
I envision the CenterPath Technology as a canoe of cushioning for my foot, ready to handle any high class rapids that a run, walk, or day at work will throw my way. For pronators, the asymmetrical design will keep your arch supported and ankle secure. For supinators, the gentle squish of the dual-cushioned midsole will allow your foot to roll gently into a neutral position.
Karen: The cushion is soft, yet supportive. Like the perfect few day old stale marshmallow. The internal support frame is like having a tiny personal trainer in your shoe, gently reminding you to maintain proper alignment—without the motivational speeches.
Joe: As I mentioned above, you won’t be setting any speed records in the Hurricane 24, and that’s okay! This highly cushioned, stability trainer from Saucony is ready to tackle any challenge of the day, providing you gentle guidance along the way. For runs, I recommend the Hurricane 24 as an option for easy runs or recovery runs. The shoe itself has some weight to it, and I’ve found my sweet spot in that 30-40 minute range. Anything longer and you start to feel like you have some ankle weights strapped on.
I would also recommend this shoe to anyone who is on their feet for long periods of time. I’ve worn it for multiple 8-9 hour shifts, and my feet have felt supported throughout the entirety of my shift.
Though the discussion may still be out on whether the Hurricane 24 is a true stability shoe or a motion control shoe, Saucony definitely hit it out of the park in designing a shoe that will be a direct competitor to the likes of the Hoka Bondi 8 or Hola Gaviota 5, the Asics Gel-Kayano 31, and the New Balance Fresh Foam more.
Karen: I would recommend this shoe for a comfortable short run, or recovery run. It may be a bit much in the volume department to get too speedy in. This shoe is like the Hoka Gaviota but softer. The Gaviota has a bit more of a strict structure and Hurricane has an extra touch of softness.
Joe: This was my first time in any iteration of the Saucony Hurricane, so I can’t compare against any other version, but I can say that I’ve been thoroughly impressed in my 3 weeks of wearing the shoe in its versatility as a cushioned, supportive daily trainer. My feet are just as happy taking the shoe off at the end of the day as they are excited when I reach to put it on. I can’t wait for it to arrive at our store, and for our staff to offer another great option from Saucony for many of our customers.
Karen: In summary, the Saucony Hurricane 24 is the all-star of footwear. It’s perfect for those who need a shoe that can handle short runs and casual outings while still looking effortlessly stylish. It’s like having a versatile friend who’s always up for an adventure, yet comfortable enough to chill with. If you’re in the market for a shoe that can keep up with your varied lifestyle, the Hurricane 24 is here to save the day—one cushy step at a time.
