Brooks Glycerin 19

Brooks Glycerin 19

Running Lab is thrilled to be offering the new Glycerin 19. The Glycerin has always been a favorite for people that enjoy cushion on their long runs or are on their feet all day in need of plush support.

Brooks Running has made a shift in their footwear this year to match up the same midsole in their neutral and stability shoes to broaden their GTS lineup. The GTS badge is going to represent the stability version of it's neutral counterpart. While this may cause some initial confusion, over time this should help customers understand the differences between which shoes are meant for people who pronate and those who don't. The Glycerin 19 remains a neutral shoe.

SUPPORT: Neutral

FIT

The toe box of the Brooks Glycerin 19 is nice and roomy without being too roomy, the length is good and runs true to size. The tongue of the shoe is nice and soft also not that noticeable. The mid foot is really nice and has a great cushioning that is still responsive. Our reviewer, Elizabeth, is used to wearing a lot more minimal shoe than this and it was still pretty responsive considering the cushioning. The mid foot has a great spring to it. The overall cushioning of the shoe seems to be pretty responsive and it has a really soft heel the cushioning still has a natural softness without your foot sinking into it so it still feels supportive. The upper is also really nice and flexible. The heel cup hugs the foot really nicely without being too tight. The arch in the shoe hugs the foot really nicely and it is great for people that have a higher arch. The Glycerin 19 could also offer some great relief for people with a lower arch, too. I would definitely say the shoe runs true to size.

STABILITY

Yes, the Glycerin 19 does feel nice and stable and you don’t feel your foot sink into the shoe; it still has good support. I even lifted weights in the shoe and it felt easy to keep balance in.

SPEED

I wore this as a recovery shoe after my longer runs because my foot was feeling fatigued and the spring in the mid-foot really helped to make my feet not feel heavy during my run. Also, I was experiencing some pain in my instep and this shoe seemed to really help the pain and make me not feel it. However, I would also recommend Glycerin 19 for people who prefer a more cushioned shoe; it would be great to wear all the time especially when you are on your feet all day for work or doing longer runs/walks.

COMPARISON

I am someone who typically wears a lot more minimal shoe and I was pleasantly surprised by this shoe and am going to make this my recovery shoe. I think that the Glycerin 19 is very similar to the fit of the Brooks Ghost but with more cushioning and a little more spring. It didn’t even feel heavier than the Ghost (but it is). I think this would be a great option for someone who likes a higher cushion shoe which can be good especially if you feel like your foot tends to fatigue a lot more easily.

PREVIOUS VERSIONS

I think that it feels lighter than the previous Glycerin 18 and it seems to have a more flexible cushioning and less stiff of a shoe.

WHAT WE THINK

I would recommend the Glycerin 19 for anyone that is on their feet all day. Also, for someone who prefers a higher cushion shoe this would be a great option. I used this shoe as a recovery shoe and I think that is a great use for this shoe, too, especially if you are like me and wear more minimal shoes this can be a nice shoe when your foot is fatigued after a longer run. This is also a great shoe for walkers because of the cushioning in the heel. Glycerin 19 would also be great for longer runs because of the spring in the mid-foot makes you not have as harsh of a ground compact on impact. This shoe also offers a great energy return.

I have been running for eight years now and am very passionate about it, on top of running I love to do yoga and strength work. I also love to hike, rock-wall climb, and do anything outside. I am always up for a new adventure. I have worked at Running Lab for five years now; this year will bring me to my sixth. I started when I was 14 helping with sales. I have worked my way up almost three years ago as a Sales Associate. I am passionate about inspiring people to move and making people have a more positive outlook on exercise. I absolutely love working at Running Lab and I think it is super cool all of the friendships and relationships that I have been able to build through something that I love to do! I typically run in the gym on the treadmill but I also love to go for a run on the track. When I can I run outside too! My favorite thing about running is how it makes me feel more confident and how it helps me clear my mind. I also love all of the people I’ve met along the way on my running journey. I feel that it has sometimes tested my mentality and has also made me grow as a person.
